Black Owned Businesses To Support In Pittsburgh Series: Coffee, Tea & Smoothie Shops

Right now, there are needs for protests, signing petitions, reading, watching, discussing, donating, and re-aligning who you’re following and seeing in order to support Black lives everywhere. But the list doesn’t stop here, nor does the need for this support.

You also have high power to decide who and where you give your money. I have seen the gaps in my content from the past, the disparities in the businesses that I support, and the cuisines that I explore. And as I said, I am aiming to do better.

As someone that worked from coffee shops during pre-quarantine life (and as someone that still thrives on iced coffee today), I’ve tried to keep an eye out for and round-up Black-owned coffee shops in and around Pittsburgh. Plus, for those that are more into tea or starting your day with a smoothie, I also have you covered!

I’m sharing this as a blog post because I know my research and findings won’t end with this list. As I’m sharing this list, I am also trying to make a better effort to check these places. So on that note, keep reading, and pictures of my visits to come.

Vibe Bellevue

I have seen multiple posts about their colorful and flavorful smoothies, but what I also loved after checking out their Instagram page is that they also have protein coffee and energizing teas, which made me want to go check them out ASAP.

Everyday Cafe

I’ve spent a few afternoons in-between meetings in Everyday Cafe, getting some emails done in their spacious sitting area. As anyone who works out of coffee shops knows, securing a table is sometimes one of the hardest things! Their lattés are even offered frozen (and are delicious) and I highly recommend a breakfast sandwich.

Griff’s Grounds Coffé

Griff’s is a family-owned “coffé” which aims to invite people to sit and spend time in their space. Though quarantine hasn’t allowed much of sitting down to happen, they are offering to-go drinks as well as taking steps to properly re-open for dine-in (or I guess I should say sipping-in) as we speak.

If you’re on the hunt for cold-pressed juices, acai bowls, and fresh smoothies, look no further. Located in Homestead, Live Fresh is on a mission to make it easier and more accessible for people to eat and live healthily. They also offer cleanses and immunity shots!
